Skill Tasks

A normal extended skill task requires the characters to pass three attribute checks before failing three attribute checks, although some can be longer. The time between the checks represents the complexity of the task:

Difficulty

The difficulty of the checks is set by the GM (see difficulty benchmarks). All three stages typically have the same difficulty.

Failed Checks

A failed check can be retried, but the time is wasted.

Multiple Characters

Different characters may attempt to solve different parts of the solution simultaneously rather than in sequence if common sense allows. The constituent parts can still be combined by the group to form the complete solution.

Opposed Checks

Some extended skill tasks, such as a chase, require opponents to make opposed checks rather than roll against a static number, with the first to reach three successes being the winner.
